MANILA - Retired Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio on Thursday ruled out any plans to run for public office.

"I really don’t have an inclination. First of all, you have to spend billions of pesos and that’s not my cup of coffee," he told ANC's Headstart.

"It’s a no because my mission is to implement, enforce the arbitral ruling and with that I’ll be happy."

Carpio, who retired on Oct. 26 after 18 years at the high court, added that he would not go back to private practice.

"I will just do 2 things, concentrate on the West Philippine Sea issue and maybe teach in a law school, or two law schools, every semester one subject," he said.

A long-time advocate for Philippine sovereignty of the West Philippine Sea, Carpio said he would consider supporting a candidate in the 2022 elections who supports the same cause.

"If I believe that is necessary for the enforcement of the ruling, for the protection of the West Philippine Sea, I will support a candidate who will be in sync with what I’m doing of course," he said.
