MANILA - The police chief of Cebu City has been relieved amid authorities' investigation into the killing of Clarin, Misamis Occidental Mayor David Navarro last week.

Police Col. Gemma Vinluan was removed from her post on Wednesday, according to Brig. Gen. Valeriano De Leon, director of the Central Visayas police.

Vinluan said she had been expecting her relief and that she was willing to be investigated.

The mayor, previously tagged in President Rodrigo Duterte's "narco-list" or those with alleged drug links, was shot dead on Oct. 25 while he was on a police vehicle en route to the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.

Navarro was set to undergo inquest proceedings for charges of slight physical injuries and acts of lasciviousness, a day after he was arrested for allegedly mauling a massage therapist and soliciting sexual favors.

He received threats from organized crime groups prior to his killing, Vinluan earlier said.
