The Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested two men allegedly involved in gunrunning syndicates in two separate operations, one in Quezon City and another in Las Piñas.
Armed with a search warrant, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) and Quezon City Police District (QCPD) operatives raided a house in Bgy. Talon 5, Las Piñas City where they arrested suspect Rodante Raymundo, who allegedly had unlicensed high-caliber guns.
PNP CIDG-NCR Chief Senior Superintendent Wilson Asueta said Raymundo was a former inmate at the New Bilibid Prison and allegedly a member of the Sigue-Sigue Commando.
“Siya ay member ng isang grupo na aming sinusubaybayan hanggang sa ngayon. Nag-surveillance kami ilang araw and we applied search warrants,” he said.
“May grupo sa Southern area and Central area ng NCR [National Capital Region]. They are involved in illegal gunrunning activities. Sa panahon ngayon, maigting naming pinaghahanap ang mga involved sa ganitong klaseng transaksyon. Marami tayong baril na nakuha at sila ngayon ay nasampahan ng kaso,” Asueta said.
Meanwhile, another suspect, Robert Corpuz Eugenio, was arrested in his house in Bgy. Payatas, Quezon City.
Recovered from Eugenio were one hand grenade and several high-powered guns and ammunition.
Asueta said these suspects may have operated gun-for-hire activities.
“Possible na involved sa gun-for-hire. Ipapa-validate natin ito through scientific examinations, sa cross-matching kung ang mga baril nila ay nagamit sa krimen. And, of course, ang iba dito ay paltik, kaya't hahanapin natin ang source nila,” he said.
