Rampaging storms

Typhoon Rosita will make landfall Tuesday. A different kind of storm, meantime, is hitting the Bureau of Customs.

The ANC Brief: Oct. 30, 2018 1

Making landfall

Typhoon Rosita is due to make landfall on Tuesday in southern Isabela or northern Aurora and will move west. Storm warning signals have been raised, with officials warning of storm surges, landslides and floods triggered by heavy winds and rain. ANC will bring you the very latest on the storm and its effects with updates from weather bureau PAGASA and local government units in the path of the storm.

Military takeover

Some senators are objecting to the order of President Duterte putting the Bureau of Customs under the control of the military. Presidential Legal Counsel and Spokesperson Sal Panelo said there is no constitutional prohibition. Will this finally clean up Customs? Former Customs chief Ruffy Biazon said even military men are susceptible to corruption. The Palace has yet to lay out a timeline for the entry of the military, even as Panelo said all they need is one week of training. Also, there are still no guidelines and no word on how long the military takeover will be in effect.

More on drugs

The Senate blue ribbon committee will continue its hearings on the P11-billion peso shabu shipment at 10 a.m. ANC will be airing the proceedings live. There is also the possibility that former Customs intelligence officer Jimmy Guban would be arrested. Guban was ordered arrested by President Duterte for his alleged involvement in shabu smuggling.

Marawi rehab, finally

The groundbreaking ceremonies for the rehabilitation of Marawi’s most affected area will be held 10 a.m. by Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM). TFBM Chair Sec. Eduardo del Rosario will lead other officials of the member agencies involved in the rehab of the most affected area. Last reports said the government is talking to PowerChina after the first contractor Bangon Marawi Consortium failed to comply with requirements. ANC will provide the latest on this event.

“Undas” updates

The exodus for the commemoration of All Saints' Day and All Souls’ Day continues. ANC will continue to provide traffic updates on roads around cemeteries and roads leading out of Metro Manila.
