MANILA - Malacañang on Tuesday confirmed that Davao City Rep. Karlo Nograles is being eyed by President Rodrigo Duterte to become his next Cabinet Secretary.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Nograles is one of the “leading” nominees for the post, which was vacated by Leoncio Evasco Jr. who is running for Bohol governor in the upcoming elections.
“He (Nograles) is one of those being considered. The announcement will be made by the President himself,” Panelo said in a Palace press briefing.
“Let’s jut wait for the president to announce. It’s the president’s call.”
It was Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra who revealed that Nograles will soon become the Cabinet Secretary.
Nograles had initially considered running for Senate but he decided against it. He is now on his third and last term at the House of Representatives and his position is being eyed by the President’s son, former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte.
