A Magnitude 6.6 earthquake caused destructive shaking in Kidapawan City and 3 other towns in Mindanao Tuesday, according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology director Renato Solidum.
Speaking to radio DZMM, Solidum said the quake was felt at Intensity 7 in Tulunan and Makilala, Cotabato; Kidapawan City; and Malungon, Sarangani.
The quake was also felt in the following areas:
Intensity VI - Davao City; Koronadal City; Cagayan de Oro City
Intensity V - Tampakan, Surallah at Tupi, South Cotabato; Alabel, Sarangani
Intensity IV - General Santos City; Kalilangan, Bukidnon
Intensity III - Sergio Osmeña Sr., Zamboanga del Norte; Zamboanga City; Dipolog City; Molave, Zamboanga del Norte; Talakag, Bukidnon
Intensity I - Camiguin, Mambajao
Solidum said the quake is related to the October 16 Magnitude 6.3 quake which also had its epicenter in Tulunan, Cotabato.
"Because of the length of the fault line, it's possible that only a portion will move or that other faults nearby will move due to stress," he said.
He ruled out that the quake could cause a tsunami. "Walang banta ng tsunami dahil nangyari ito sa kalupaan...Wala pong mangyayaring ganun," he said.
The Phivolcs director said the public should expect aftershocks, saying buildings with damage should not be used.
