MANILA - Three earthquakes were monitored off Hinatuan town in Surigao del Sur on Monday night, the Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
A 5.0-magnitude quake was recorded 78 kilometers (kms) northeast of the town at 9:41 p.m.
A 5.3-magnitude tremor was later monitored 57 kms southeast of the town at 10:40 p.m.
A third 5.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded 53 kilometers northeast of the same town at 10:51 p.m.
Intensity II was felt in Bislig City for the two earlier quakes. Intensity III was felt in the same city for the third tremor.
No major damage was expected from both quakes, but Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks.
