MARAWI - After 5 months of staying in different evacuation centers, more than 700 displaced families on Sunday have finally come back home to Barangay Basak Malutlut in this city.

The families were fetched in Iligan City by a service provided by the government. Some residents were picked up along the way in the towns of Balo-i and Saguiaran.

Returning residents went through thorough checks in Barangay Sagonsungan to make sure only those who live in Barangay Basak Malutlut are in the convoy.

They will receive food supply packs Sunday, and financial assistance from the government at the Marawi City Hall on Monday.

Residents from other barangays outside the main battle area are scheduled to return to their homes on October 31 onwards.

The government has yet to announce when those living in the main battle area may return. Authorities are still clearing the battlegrounds where state troops and Maute terrorists fought for 5 months.
