MANILA - The Department of Justice on Sunday said it ordered the Bureau of Immigration and Australian nun Patricia Fox to comment on the deportation case against the missionary

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said both camps were given 30 days to submit their memoranda. After which, the DOJ will resolve Fox's appeal against the revocation of her missionary visa.

The Bureau of Immigration has ordered the deportation of the 71-year-old nun for allegedly violating the terms of her visa when she supposedly joined "political activities" in the country.

Aside from the deportation order, the bureau also ordered that Fox be placed on the immigration watchlist and barred from returning to the Philippines.

Fox was detained last April 16 for "illegal political activities" after she took part in a human rights fact-finding mission in Mindanao, according to leftist group Bayan.

The missionary, who has worked in the Philippines for 27 years, has repeatedly denied the government's allegations.

She was granted a temporary visitor visa valid for 59 days while her deportation case is being heard. -- report from Mike Navallo, ABS-CBN News
