MANILA (UPDATE)—State weather bureau PAGASA said Saturday it was monitoring a new low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

The weather system was spotted 540 kilometers east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 3 p.m., the PAGASA said.

The LPA, unlikely to become a tropical cyclone as it crosses Philippine landmass over 3 days, will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao, and Central and Eastern Visayas.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or amihan will trigger isolated light rains over Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience isolated rains brought by localized thunderstorms, the PAGASA said.
