Former President Joseph Estrada and former Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. were among the personalities who paid their last respects to the late Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal on Tuesday.
In a short interview with media, Estrada said he is blessed to have known the late cardinal.
He described Cardinal Vidal as someone who knew how to give hope to people.
He said that when he was facing impeachment and was locked up in jail, he had the chance to seek advise from the cardinal and the latter told him to lift up all his worries to God and face life with a grateful and happy heart.
Former president and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was also in Cebu to pay her last respects to Vidal.
Vidal, the fourth Filipino cardinal, died on Oct 18 due to complications from pneumonia. He was 86.
During the second EDSA uprising in 2001, Vidal urged Estrada to step down on allegations of corruption.
Arroyo became president after Estrada's resignation. Vidal later convinced Arroyo to pardon Estrada, who was convicted of plunder.
