President Duterte has appointed Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta as the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. During the interviews of the candidates, while reportedly fighting back tears, Peralta said he deserves to be Chief Justice because he worked hard all these years. The Palace said Peralta is sure to uphold judicial independence and integrity. ANC will provide a look into his profile and how he voted in recent high-profile cases.
Speaking of the president, his spokesman said President Duterte will see a doctor about the pain in his spine. Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said the president will inform the public of the results of the consultation.
Beginning today, some parts of Metro Manila and surrounding areas will experience interruptions in their water supply in some parts of the day. The National Water Resources Board said less rain this month prompted the lower water allocation in Metro Manila. But an official of the agency said the service interruption will not be as bad as the interruptions last March. This was when water levels at the Angat Dam, a primary source of water for the metropolis, dipped past the critical level. The resulting interruptions affected about a million households.
Maltreatment at the academy
According to an internal military report, at least 27 cases of maltreatment at the Philippine Military Academy are under investigation. All of these cases occurred after Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio died due to hazing. The Armed Forces of the Philippines also appealed to the public to stop spreading videos showing hazing at the PMA.
