MANILA (UPDATE) - The United Kingdom on Tuesday issued an advisory to its citizens warning them against traveling to Mindanao following possible clashes between armed militant groups and state forces.

"Armed clashes between security forces and militant groups can occur at any time without warning; before travelling to rural areas, you should research the area thoroughly," the advisory said.

The UK government particularly advised against travel to western and central Mindanao, and Sulu archipelago because of the threat of terrorism.

The government issued the notice after conflict-stricken Marawi city was liberated from Islamic State-inspired terrorists last week.
