MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) is serious in cleansing the ranks of the police force, its chief Director General Roland "Bato" Dela Rosa stressed, especially now that they have let go of their role in the government's drug war.

In a press briefing at Camp Crame on Monday, Dela Rosa assured that the 6 Olongapo cops accused of raping and maltreating a female drug suspect inside the police station will face justice, even if the incident happened months ago.

"We had acted on that accordingly at mananagot sila. That incident happened 5 months ago. But since mainit ang ating internal cleansing, tinutukan talaga ng City Director ng Olongapo," Dela Rosa said.

Dela Rosa said regardless of when a crime is committed, he will make sure that involved policemen would suffer the consequences of their actions.

"Kahit perpetrated one or two years ago, if it remains a crime, dapat hindi pabayaan para mabigyan ng leksyon ang mga tao nating sira ulo," he said.

Aside from the 6 cops, two more Olongapo policemen were accused of robbery and extortion by a couple they arrested in a drug bust last March.

The country's top cop warned police "scalawags: "Isasabay ko kayo sa aking retirement. Pauunahin ko kayo. Mauuna kayong umalis sa PNP bago ang retirement ko."
