MANILA - Social Welfare Assistant Secretary Lorraine Badoy is now officially an undersecretary at the Presidential Communications Operations Office.
The PCOO, led by Secretary Martin Andanar on Monday released the appointment paper of Badoy, who now joins the Palace communications office as Undersecretary for New Media.
"We welcome Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy to the Presidential Communications Operations Office family. We look forward to working together as we bring the government closer to the people by keeping them informed of the progress this administration is making towards changing the country for the better,” Andanar said in a statement.
"We have seen Dr. Badoy’s passion for serving our people in her work at the DSWD. We are confident that the same zeal and enthusiasm that animated her in caring for the less privileged will enable us to more effectively reach out to more people through new media.”
Prior to joining the government, Badoy, a staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, practiced medicine.
In March, Badoy drew criticism after she said that instead of sounding the alarm on the thousands of deaths in the drug war, those from the European Union (EU) should just engage in online child pornography and that opposition figures Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV should take up other hobbies.
"Learn a craft. Mag-gantsilyo club muna kayo, Trillanes, Leni, etc. Bake ng red velvet cupcakes. Tapos yung mga taga EU, mag online child porn muna kayo. Dyan naman kayo magaling eh. (Wow. Uproar.)," she said in a Facebook post.
Former Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman earlier asked the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to reprimand Badoy over social media posts that are "unbecoming of a civil servant."
