MANILA - A suspect in the bombing that wounded 8 people in General Santos City last September was killed in a follow-up operation in Sarangani province, police said Monday.
The suspect, identified as Bassir Sahak, exchanged gunfire with state troops in Barangay Daliao, Maasim town, said Soccsksargen police chief C/Supt. Eliseo Rasco.
An M-16 rifle, several bullets and bomb-making materials were recovered from the suspect, said Rasco.
Sahak is facing frustrated murder charges over the explosion of a homemade bomb outside a drug store in General Santos last Sep. 16, as other parts of the country reeled from the onslaught of typhoon Ompong.
The suspect was allegedly part of Ansar Al-Khilafa Philippines group, which has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.
His father, Kupang Sahak, evaded arrest during the operation.
