Blogging competition aims to fight fake news

MANILA (3rd UPDATE) - In a bid to fight the spread of fake news, a group of truth advocates will stage a blogging competition later this month.

Tagged the #BreaktheFake Blogathon, the contest will pit groups of three writers against each other for a chance to win P10,000.

The team which comes in second will get P5,000, and the third placer will get P3,000.

Teams joining the competition will have to write blog entries tackling the fight against fake news.

The deadline for registering for the contest was extended to Nov. 15.


Interested bloggers may visit the group's website or Facebook page.

The main event will be at 9 a.m. on Nov. 19 at Solutions Space, Makati City. It was originally scheduled on Oct. 28, but was moved to allow more participants to join the event.

The blogathon is an initiative of the Break the Fake Movement, which describes itself as "a group of young leaders from different professions and sectors."

On its website, the group said it is committed to fighting the spread of fake news by organizing activities that would engage the public, especially the youth.
