CAGAYAN DE ORO -- The remains of former Senator Aquilino "Nene" Pimentel Jr. will briefly be brought to his hometown here, according to his son, incumbent senator Koko Pimentel.
Relatives of Pimentel had confirmed his death Sunday morning, days after the late senator was rushed to the hospital after falling "very ill."
In his Facebook page, the younger Pimentel rolled out the schedule of funeral services for the late senator, starting at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City beginning October 20 until October 22.
The remains of Pimentel will be brought to the Senate office in Pasay on October 23 before being lifted to Cagayan de Oro until the morning of October 25. While there, funeral services will be done at the Cagayan de Oro City Hall.
From Cagayan De Oro, Pimentel's remains will be returned to Heritage Park on the afternoon of October 25.
The family has yet to announce the schedule for internment services.
Pimentel had served as mayor of the Mindanao city from 1980 to 1984, and had become city assemblyman from 1984 until 1986.
He was also Misamis Oriental's delegate to the 1971 Constitutional Convention that was tasked to propose amendments to the charter, under President Ferdinand Marcos.
The late senator was sick with lymphoma, a form of cancer, according to his son.
