The mayor of Sara town, Iloilo was released from detention Thursday, a day after she was arrested for possession of high-powered firearms, police said.
Chief Supt. John Bulalacao said Sara Mayor Ermelita Salcedo was arrested in a raid.
Salcedo is the wife of former Sara mayor Neptali Salcedo Sr., who was the subject of the search warrant but was not around during the raid.
Their son Ricky Salcedo and grandson Nixon Salcedo Jr. were killed in separate police operations. Ricky's 16-year-old live-in partner has been turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development office.
The mayor was released because she was not the subject of the search warrant, according to Supt. Joem Malong, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 6.
"According to our legal officer, the search warrant was not named for the mayor so she is not the subject of the warrant of arrest. So she cannot be qualified for constructive possession," Malong said.
Authorities, meanwhile, will file charges against her husband.
Aside from Neptali, there were six other subjects who were not in their house during the simultaneous serving of search warrants in several towns in Iloilo.
