MANILA- The final list of candidates for the 2019 mid-term elections will be out by Dec. 15, Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez said Thursday.
Jimenez said the list would be released by December since the ballot-design process would have to start by January next year.
The week-long filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) ended Wednesday with 152 senatorial hopefuls and 185 party-list bets seeking approval.
Starting Thursday until Nov. 29, the poll body will review the filed COCs to identify "nuisance candidates," or those who are out to make a mockery of the election process.
“Magkakaroon ng hearing para doon sa (there will be a hearing for the) potential nuisance candidates," Jimenez said.
"Pangkaraniwan nating ginagawa iyan usually 2-3 weeks after the last day of filing kasi binibigyan natin ng panahon na mag-evaluate ang ating mga officers dito and para mapadalhan natin ng notice ang mga involved," he added.
(We usually do that 2-3 weeks after the last day of filing because we want to give our officers time to evaluate and send notices to those involved.)
The poll body also reiterated that substitution of candidates due to withdrawal is allowed until Nov. 29.
After Nov. 29, substitution will only be allowed in the event a candidate dies or he or she will be replaced by someone who shares his or her last name. -report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
