MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday admitted that he has consulted a dermatologist over the darkening on his face, which earlier fueled speculation about his health.
Duterte said the dermatologist was “very good” and gave him a skin care regimen to address his uneven skin tone.
The President earlier explained that the darkening on his face was due to his frequent trips to the mountains and military camps. He also said he was not used to using skin care products as he believes these are only for women.
“Para sa akin ang lalaki it’s not really the color of the skin or the face, it’s your character,” Duterte said in a speech during the 44th Philippine Business Conference and Expo in Manila.
(For me, when it comes to men it's not really the color of the skin or the face, it's your character.)
Communist Party of the Philippines founding chair Jose Maria Sison earlier claimed that Duterte’s face discoloration “is supposed to be a symptom of a kidney problem, an indication of renal failure.”
Sison, citing a doctor, said Duterte must be undergoing dialysis.
“The kidney problem must have been caused by excessive intake of pain-killers by Duterte. He has publicly admitted suffering frequently from pain because of his damaged spine,” Sison said in a Facebook post.
Duterte has denied Sison’s claim.
“Dying? Kidney ana sa kamot nako kagwapo o. O nia ngari o. Hain bay tinuksanan ana?” Duterte said in late August.
Duterte later admitted undergoing a medical examination and said a growth found in his digestive tract was “negative” for cancer.
