Philippine National Police Chief Dir. Gen. Ronald Dela Rosa has ordered the arrest of policemen involved in illegal drug activities, a police official said Wednesday.

“The Chief PNP called me awhile ago and instructed me to inform all the PNP-DEG (Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group) personnel that we are already tasked to conduct joint operations with the CITF (Counter-Intelligence Task Force). We are conducting operations on our own personnel who are involved not only in illegal drugs but lahat na rin ng illegal na gawain may sangkot na kapulisan natin,” outgoing PNP-DEG Director Chief Supt. Graciano Jaylo Mijares said.

Aside from helping the PNP-CITF, the PNP-DEG will continue intelligence-gathering on illegal drugs operations and endorse cases to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

“Doon naman sa ating PNP DEG, continue pa rin sa intelligence aspect ng operation to assist PDEA. SO lahat, if they need people, they are more than ready na mag-provide sa kanila and at the same time, ongoing projects, tuloy pa rin, but will eventually turn it over to the PDEA,” Mijares said.

Mijares has been assigned as the new regional director for Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao.

“I am having mixed emotions because im leaving this office, Drug Enforcement Group. Napamahal na rin sa ‘tin ito but then we have to follow the directive coming from the Chief PNP. I'm now designated as the officer in charge of the police regional office of ARMM,” Mijares said.

Mijares served as deputy regional director for operations of PNP-Region 3 then became city director of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro. He later became provincial director of Misamis Oriental.

Mijares also served under the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force.

Mijares belongs to Maringal Class ’88 of the Philippine Military Academy.

“There were 10 of us I think who are recommended but then isa rin siguro 'yung consideration na iyan for giving me this break its because I’m from Mindanao so nakikita natin kung me problema before sigurado ko malaki rin ang ating maitulong doon,” Mijares said.

“Isa na rin sigurong factor, is that I'm from Mindanao, I don’t have adjustments anymore. Siguro may advantage tayo doon sa terrain especially sa ARMM area,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chief Supt Joseph Adnol, former deputy regiona ldirector for the administration of PNP-Region 10, will assume his new role as incoming PNP-DEG director.

“I’d like to express my personal gratitude to the Chief PNP for this trust and confidence on giving me the opportunity to lead the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group. In fact he surprised me and did not expect to be here. Although he has personal instructions on how will perform here but I will not divulge as of this time, magtrabaho muna,” he said.

While the PNP-DEG is undergoing a lull stage in illegal drugs operations, Adnol said he will take this time to assess his unit.

“We have to abide by the directive to step aside para sa our mandate’s concern. This is also the time to assess probably our capacity and capability so that we’ll be assured ng kung sakaling ibabalik uli, we will ready to face,” Adnol said.

He said this is his first time to be assigned in national support unit, especially in operations but said he is exposed to operations as far as anti-insurgency is concerned.

“The marching order was already laid down by my predecessor, itutuloy ko na lang,” Adnol said.
