CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - A former undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture officially formalized his bid for Cagayan de Oro (CDO) City mayor by filing his certificate of candidacy on Wednesday afternoon.
Pompee La Viña will run for mayor under the coalition of local party Padayon Pilipino, Hugpong ng Pagbabago of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, and the Centrist Democratic Party (CDP).
Former Cagayan de Oro Mayor Vicente 'Dongkoy' Emano, the founding chairman of Padayon Pilipino, will be La Viña's running mate.
Former Congressman Rufus Rodriguez is also eyeing a comeback as 2nd district representative alongside former CDO vice-mayor Ian Acenas as representative of CDO's 1st district.
The Padayon-Hugpong-CDP is the current opposition coalition in Cagayan de Oro, which will challenge the PDP-Laban Party led by incumbent CDO Mayor Oscar Moreno.
Both parties claim to be supported by President Rodrigo Duterte.
