ZAMBOANGA CITY – A public school teacher abducted in late September was released by her captors in Jolo, Sulu Wednesday morning, a top military official confirmed to ABS-CBN News.

Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said local authorities found Rosina Singua, 58, at the Jolo port area early Wednesday morning after receiving reports of a supposed pay-off transaction.

Sobejana said a pursuit operation was immediately launched to go after her abductors. They also scoured the areas and houses where the victim was reportedly brought to by her abductors during the 18-day ordeal.

The teacher from Zamboanga City was abducted outside a church in Jolo, Sulu last September 28, after attending a friend’s wedding.

The following day, one of her children got a call from the supposed abductors and demanded a hefty amount in exchange for her life and freedom.

Singua is now undergoing custodial debriefing at the Sulu Provincial Police Office.
