'Kung ako masusunod': Jinggoy wants himself, brother JV elected in 2019 polls

MANILA - After all, they are brothers.

Former Senator Jinggoy Estrada wished nothing but the best for his brother JV Ejercito in the upcoming 2019 elections.

"Good luck. Kahit na ano pang sabihin nang nais na mang-intriga sa aming relasyon ng aking nakababatang kapatid, kahit papaano, kapatid ko pa rin 'yan, kadugo ko pa rin 'yan, iisa lang ang tatay namin," he said.

The two sons of former president and now Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada are gunning for a seat in the Upper chamber.

If Jinggoy will have his way, he wants both of them elected.

"Kung ako ang masusunod, kung puwede lang, dalawa kaming mananalo. Dalawa naman kaming determinado," the senatorial aspirant said.

JV, son of Erap and San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez, filed his candidacy for senator on Monday.

Jinggoy, son of Erap and former Senator Loi Estrada, is currently out on bail while on trial for plunder and graft for his alleged role in the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam.

The two have been divided by a rift over Ejercito's decision to sign a Senate committee report finding Jinggoy liable in the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam in May 2014.

In San Juan City, the Estrada clan intend to continue their rule by fielding Jinggoy's daughter Janella for the mayoralty position.

The current San Juan City vice mayor is expected to face the city's former vice mayor, Francis Zamora.

"Doon po sa nangyari between the Zamoras and Estradas, sa totoo lang po, sila po 'yung humiwalay sa grupo, siguro because of political purposes. Siguro between me and former vice mayor, naging magkaibigan naman kami. Nagkasama kami sa city council," she said.

Janella also got the support of Gomez, who will be focusing on her family after her term ends.

Asked about the rift between his father and uncle, Janella had this to say, "Para sa akin wala naman po... Actually, very close po ako kay Tito JV and of course, my dad. Sila naman po 'yung medyo hindi nagkakasunduan, hindi nagkakaunawaan. Pero para po sa akin, magkakapamilya po kami, sana po ay matapos na 'yung rift." - with report from Bettina Magsaysay, ABS-CBN News
