MANILA - Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmeña on Monday registered his bid for re-election.
Osmeña filed his certificate of candidacy for mayor together with his running mate, Councilor Mary Ann Delos Santos.
The mayor said his team is not intimidated by celebrities who will be running under the team of his opponent, former mayor Michael Rama.
Rama has tapped actor Richard Yap as congressional candidate for the north district and athlete Dondon Hontiveros for the south district.
"Celebrities don’t click in Cebu," said Osmeña.
The mayor has spearheaded several pending projects, including the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), a call center, and the development of Kawit island.
Osmeña, however, recently drew the ire of President Rodrigo Duterte for allegedly being arrogant.
The mayor’s rift with Duterte’s presidential adviser on the Visayas, Michael Lloyd Dino, is public knowledge. The 2 have reportedly been at odds over the BRT project, which Dino allegedly blocked.
Osmeña, who comes from the prominent Cebu political clan, earlier said the President was "entitled to say whatever he wants."
