MANILA - ABS-CBN News programs "TV Patrol" and "Rated K" led the winners of the 2018 ComGuild Awards held in Quezon City, Saturday.

"Rated K" host Korina Sanchez-Roxas received awards for best magazine show and best magazine show host.

Telling the mostly student audience that her career as a broadcaster has mostly been with magazine shows, she said the award encourages her team to tell more and better stories.

"The most important stories are those of ordinary people," she said.

ABS-CBN journalist Alvin Elchico, meanwhile, received the recognition for "TV Patrol" as best news program.

Elchico was also awarded best male news presenter of the year.

"In this day and age na under attack yung trabaho ng pagiging journalist, tayong nasa traditional forms of media, hindi tayo dapat mawalan ng pagasa o manlumo o magalit sa sitwasyon natin. Bagkus ito ay challenge," he said.

(In this day and age that our job as a journalist is under attack, we in the traditional forms of media should not lose hope or be angered in our situation. It should instead be a challenge.)

"The people will demand more from us. Pagbutihin pa natin, galingan natin para hindi tayo mahuli sa times. Kasi ito na ang hinihingi sa atin ng pagkakataon at ng sambayanang Pilipino. Hindi na sila satisfied sa dati nating ginagawa so this is why we have to do more."

(The people will demand more from us. We should do well more, let's excel more so we are not left behind because this is what the Filipino asks from us. They are not satisfied with what we used to do so this is why we have to do more.)

"Red Alert" host Jeff Canoy was recognized best male news reporter. He received the award together with his news crew.

"Sa panahong ang katotohanan ay binabali at ang kasinungalingan ay ginagamit para pagtakpan ang pagkakamali, ang ganitong pagkilala ay parang binibigyang halaga ang mga ginagawa ng mga reporter sa araw araw," he said.

(In these times that truth is being twisted and lies are being used to cover up mistakes, this recognition gives meaning to everything reporters do every day.)

"Encouragement ito sa amin (This is an encouragement to us) to persist and endure."

MOR 101.9 disc jockey Chacha won best radio DJ, her second recognition from ComGuild.

"Knowing kung gaano katindi pinipili ang mga ganitong award, napakahalaga nito para sa akin lalo't dati rin akong estudyante," she said.

(Knowing how difficult it is to pick the winner, this award is important to me especially because I was a former student.)

Late-night talk show "Tonight with Boy Abunda" reaped awards for best entertainment news show and best entertainment news show host for Boy Abunda.

ABS-CBN chairman emeritus Eugenio Lopez III was also honored with the 2018 ComGuild Media Persona of Excellence.

The ComGuild Awards are chosen by more than 70 schools yearly and cover both TV and radio outlets.
