Customs officers seized P2 billion in fake goods at storage units inside a building in Binondo, Manila Thursday. Handout

MANILA - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) confiscated around P2-billion worth of fake branded goods in Binondo, Manila Thursday.

Customs agents seized counterfeit cell phones, cameras, and other household products hidden in hundreds of boxes in 3 units at the Huang Lim Hong Lian building in Binondo.

Barangay Kagawad Jasmin Escoto said a certain Brian Lee rented the raided units.

Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said the raid was prompted by a tip from Unilever, which reported the illegal distribution of fake products carrying its brands.

"These goods did not undergo quality control. Buyers should be more (careful) in buying fake goods. Mura nga pero 'di naman magtatagal, puwede pa itong mag-cause ng sunog at mag-impose ng risk sa kalusugan," Lapeña added.

Among those seized were knock-offs of Apple, Samsung, Beats, Adidas, Bose, Oppo, Olay and Aveeno products.

Neither the owner nor workers were found at the raided units, Lapeña said.
Customs police will guard the units while the case is under investigation.

Lapeña said the confiscated items will be destroyed after a warrant of seizure and detention is issued.
