Ombudsman suspends Ilocos Norte mayor 1
Mayor Arsenio Agustin was suspended by the Ombudsman for simple neglect of duty.

ILOCOS NORTE – The Office of the Ombudsman has imposed a one- month-and-one-day suspension against Mayor Arsenio Agustin of Marcos, Ilocos Norte after he was found guilty of simple neglect of duty.

Last April 2015, former Mayor Salvador Pillos filed a complaint for conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service, grave misconduct, gross neglect of duty and violation of Republic Act No. 7160 against Agustin, Vice-Mayor Jessie Ermitanio, a Sangguniang Bayan Member, and some department heads and employees.

Pillos claimed that the municipal dump truck, payloader, ambulance, van and various office equipment were declared unserviceable without its real value being appraised.

The Ombudsman found that only one vehicle that was donated by the League of Municipalities of the Philippines was not declared in an inventory for unserviceable.

The complaints against 9 of the respondents were dismissed for lack of substantial evidence.

However, the Ombudsman found substantial evidence against Agustin, municipal treasurer Imelda Manuel, and municipal engineer Warner Macusi for being administratively liable.

Agustin has filed for a motion for reconsideration while Ermitanio took his position for now.

Prior to the 2016 elections, Agustin stepped down as mayor because he was disqualified over a citizenship case, but returned to power after winning as mayor.
