MANILA - Former Davao Vice-Mayor Paolo Duterte, son of President Rodrigo Duterte, filed Friday his certificate of candidacy to run for congressman of Davao's 1st District.
Duterte, the eldest of the Duterte siblings, filed his COC on Friday. He was accompanied by his sister, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, and brother-in-law Manases Carpio.
Duterte resigned as vice mayor last Christmas Day after a public squabble with his daughter and after being tagged in the P6.4-billion worth of shabu shipment that slipped past the Bureau of Customs.
The President earlier said he has yet to talk to his son about his plans in the 2019 plans.
"Frankly, I haven't talked to my son for the longest time...He has his own family, maybe he finds few opportunities for me to talk to him. Alam mo naman ako, I commute Manila-Davao frequently and only because my residence is here," he said.
Duterte said he is waiting for his son to talk to him.
"I expect him as a son to come to me and say, "Pa gusto kong tatakbo." Kasi alam mo eh, anak ko eh," he said. He added his daughter is unlikely to run for senator in 2019.
