MANILA - Tropical Depression "Odette" has slightly intensified as it barreled towards the Isabela-Cagayan area, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday.

At 10 a.m., Odette was packing top sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 65 kph. It was last spotted 540 kilometers east of Tuguegarao, Cagayan, PAGASA said in a weather bulletin.

Odette may strengthen further before it makes landfall in Isabela-Cagayan late Thursday or early Friday, PAGASA meteorologist Gener Quitlong told DZMM.

"Dahil po ito ay medyo may kalayuan, nasa dagat pa po, posible pong mag intensify pa ito bago mag-landfall. Ibig sabihin, pwede po itong maging tropical storm," Quitlong said.

Public storm warning signal number 1 was raised over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan islands, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.

These areas, Quitlong said, will experience winds of 30 to 60 kph and rains that may trigger floods and landslides.

Light to moderate thunderstorms meanwhile were seen in Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Southern Luzon and Visayas, the meteorologist said.Visit the ABS-CBN Weather Center for the latest weather updates.
