'Odette' barrels toward northern Luzon

Tropical depression Odette intensified further as it headed for northern Luzon, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday morning.

In its 5 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Odette was last spotted 730 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

It is currently packing maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kph, with gusts of up to 65 kph.

Odette may bring moderate to heavy rains within its 350-kilometer diameter.

Storm signal number 1 is still up over Cagayan, Babuyan group of Islands, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province and Ifugao.

The latest advisory also indicated the possible inclusion of Ilocos provinces in areas under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) number 1 Thursday morning.

The tropical depression is moving west at 26 kph and is forecast to be 115 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan Friday morning.

Sea travel is risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon, PAGASA said.
