MANILA - Former Hinabangan, Samar Mayor Alejandro Abarratigue is facing trial for graft at the Sandiganbayan for the alleged illegal purchase of a lot amounting to P500,000.

In the charge sheet of the Office of the Ombudsman filed before the Sandiganbayan, Abarratigue was accused of causing "undue injury to the government in the amount of at least P500,000" by purchasing a lot from the heirs of one Isidro Abarracoso "without the authority from the Sangguniang Bayan of Hinabangan, Samar.”

Also charged were Municipal Treasurer Raul Tapia and Administrative Officer Analiza Bagro.

The Ombudsman said Abarratigue signed the disbursement voucher while Tapia certified the availability of funds and signed the check, which Bagro then received on behalf of Abarracoso.

The Ombudsman recommended a P30,000 bail for each of the respondents.
