MANILA - Two new police security personnel have been assigned to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday.
Chief Supt. Filmore Escobal, director of the PNP-Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG), said they assigned two new personnel and not his previous police security.
PNP Chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde said he ordered the reassignment last week for "accounting purposes."
“There was an accounting of the security details especially na mage-eleksiyon (this upcoming elections). Temporarily, pinu-pullout yan (we pull them out) for accounting purposes," he said.
"Pangalawa, nag-expire din yung security detail niya, so kailangan i-renew yung letter orders nila which he is entitled naman. Kapag nakulong siya, we will remove his security detail."
(Second, his security detail has expired. So the order letters will have to be renewed, which he is entitled to. If he is detained, we will remove his security detail.)
Last July 13, the police security personnel assigned to Sen. Trillanes were recalled because the provision allegedly expired and the PSPG said they conducted a personnel audit.
In less than a week, the police security personnel were brought back by the PNP.
Police again recalled Trillanes' police security escorts when President Rodrigo Duterte voided his amnesty.
“Coincidence yung natanggal, since ni-revoke ang amnesty, yun 'yung in-account ang security detail niya. Isa na rin 'yun sa dahilan, 'yung revocation ng amnesty niya,” he said.
(It was a coincidence that they were removed. Since the amnesty was revoked, they also took into account his security detail That was one of the reasons, the revocation of his amnesty.)
Albayalde said if and when the court decides to issue an arrest warrant against Sen Trillanes, the police security detail will once again be recalled.
“If he will be issued a warrant without a bail, definitely we will remove his security,” Albayalde said.
