CAGAYAN DE ORO - A special investigation task group (SITG) has been created to thoroughly look into the killing of Ozamiz City Regional Trial Court Judge Edmundo Pintac, police said Wednesday.
The SITG will be headed by Senior Supt. Emmanuel Hebron of the Misamis Occidental Provincial Police Office.
"May proposal ang SITG na mag-raise ng pera na pwedeng maging reward incentive sa mga taong makapagbibigay nang impormasyon hinggil sa pagkamatay ni Judge Pintac," said Supt. Surki Sereñas, regional police office spokesperson.
The Integrated Bar of the Philippines in Misamis Oriental, meanwhile, condemned the killing of Pintac and called on the police to fast-track their investigation.
"We hope na malutas ito kaagad otherwise sino pang huwes ang didinig sa mga kaso, impartial judge who would hear cases kung papatayin lang sila," said Atty. Eddie Cuaresma, president of IBP-Misamis Oriental-CdeO Chapter.
Police are looking into the motive of the killing as possibly work-related. Pintac was hearing cases mostly on illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearms.
Pintac also denied the request of Ozamiz Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog and her brother Reynaldo Jr. for a furlough to visit the wake of their parents and relatives who died in a bloody raid in July last year.
Nova Princess has denied that the Parojinog family is involved in the murder of Pintac and offered condolences to his bereaved family.
"To set the record straight, I, nor any member of the Parojinog family, was not involved in any way to the incident. We take offense that we are being subjected to trial by publicity with the inaccurate and malicious information against us," she said.
