TANAUAN CITY, Batangas - (UPDATE) The daughter of the slain mayor of this town filed her certificate of candidacy for the local chief executive post on Thursday to continue her father's fight.

Angeline "Sweet" Halili, daughter of former mayor Antonio Halili, filed her COC at the local Commission on Elections office early in the morning.

"Masakit sa Tanauan po talaga, sa mga tao, masakit sa kanilang nawala si Daddy, malaking kawalan sa kanila. So ako, tinatanong nila sa akin kung ako'y tatakbo at kung lalaban - tuloy po tayo," she told reporters.

(It was painful for Tanauan, for its people, that Daddy is gone, it's a big loss for the, They asked me if I am running, if the fight continues--we will proceed.)

The elder Halili, who became controversial for his "walk of shame" parade of alleged drug dealers, was shot dead during a flag-raising ceremony last July.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency insisted that the slain mayor had ties to the narcotics trade, echoing President Rodrigo Duterte's accusation.

But Angeline claimed the President had been fed false information about her father, whom she said would rather die than deal with drugs.
