MANILA - A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck Antique province early Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tremor hit at 2:34 a.m., some 10 kilometers northwest of Barbaza town.

Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 3 kilometers.

Intensity 4, which may felt like a passing of a heavy truck and may cause hanging objects to swing considerably, was felt in the towns of Barbaza, Sibalom, and Tibiao.

Instrumental intensity 2 was also recorded in the town of San Jose de Buenavista.

The tremor is not expected to either spawn aftershocks or cause damage, Phivolcs said.
