MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday gave posthumous awards to five Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agents slain in an ambush last week in Lanao del Sur.
Duterte conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu on slain PDEA agents during their wake at Camp Siongco in Maguindanao. The award is given to individuals who gave their service in support of the President’s advocacy.
The President also gave cash assistance to the families of the slain PDEA agents.
The PDEA agents were on board a van on their way to Marawi City when there were waylaid by a still unidentified number of suspects.
The fatalities were identified as Kenneth Capuno, Kristine Mae Torlao, Laurice Joy Amar, Vencio Ardepolla, and Diobel Pacinio. Three of the slain agents were fresh graduates from the PDEA academy.
Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said the complaints were filed against 10 suspects in the killing of the PDEA agents.
Albayalde said the suspects ambushed the victims as a retaliation for a successful drug operation back in August.
