MANILA—A man believed to be holding an important position in the New People's Army was arrested in a joint military and police operation in Butuan City on Thursday.
Virgilio Torralba Lincuna, 68, was taken into custody in Barangay Tiniwasan, Caraga police said in a statement.
Lincuna reportedly faces 3 counts of attempted murder and his bail has been set at P100,000 for each case.
Police alleged that Lincuna is the secretary of the rebel group's regional urban committee, regional white area committee, northeastern Mindanao regional committee in the area.
He is also chairman of the Kilusang Mayo Uno that spearheaded mass actions in Butuan, according to police.
