CAGAYAN DE ORO - The weather has turned against the top weather forecaster of the province of Misamis Oriental who was arrested for illegal drugs in Cagayan de Oro Tuesday morning.
Vergil Lago, weather monitoring chief of the Misamis Oriental Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, was caught in the act sniffing alleged shabu inside an inn in the city.
SPO3 Jigger Rojo, investigator of Cagayan de Oro's Drug Enforcement Unit, said they were on the look-out for Lago over his alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
Lago declined to comment on the allegations.
Fernando Vincent Dy, chief of Misamis Oriental PDRRMO, said they were saddened by Lago's arrest but added that they will not tolerate an illegal act.
In a statement, Governor Bambi Emano of Misamis Oriental said he supports the national government's campaign against illegal drugs but like any other suspect. Lago has the right to defend himself in court.
“It has been my pride to support President Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign against the proliferation of illegal drugs, but each and every suspect like Virgil Lago deserves his right to defend himself in court. Let justice bring him in or out of this mess. But the law must prevail,” said Emano.
Lago will face charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
