MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday it has created a task force to investigate the slay of an Ozamiz City judge who handled the drug cases against the Parojinog family.
PNP spokesperson Benigno Durana said Tuesday police would be looking at security cameras in the area where Judge Edmundo Pintac was killed Monday.
Pintac had come from the Ozamiz City Regional Trial Court Branch 15 and was alone driving home in Barangay Banadero when he was shot dead by 4 men on motorcycles.
The Commission on Human Rights said it would also investigate the killing of Pintac, who handled drug cases against Ozamiz City Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog.
Durana said they are not discounting the possibility that the Parojinog family, known to have drug links, was behind the judge's killing.
Several family members, including the vice mayor's father Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. and mother Susan, were killed in drug raids in August 2017.
Chief Justice Teresita de Castro condemned the slay of Pintac, who was a Regional Trial Court judge for 15 years, and called on police to exert all efforts to resolve the crime.
