MANILA - At least three more members of the Cabinet will run in the 2019 midterm elections.
Duterte on Tuesday said among those who will run are Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones, and Guiling Mamondiong, director general of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
Duterte did not specify what positions Castriciones and Mamondiong will be seeking. ABS-CBN sources meanwhile earlier Cayetano will run as congressman of Taguig.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque and Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, and Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Francis Tolentino are also among those supposedly eyeing Senate seats or local posts in the 2019 polls.
In a chance interview with reporters, Duterte lamented losing Tolentino in his Cabinet.
"Sino pa ba? Ah si Francis, ito ang nanghinayang ako. (Who else? Francis, I regret this.) You know Francis as a mayor, kilala ninyo (you know him), he’s a very good administrator. Lahat ng (All) disaster, from the Mayon, he was always my point man," he said.
Duterte earlier announced that former Customs chief and now Office of Civil Defense Deputy Administrator Nicanor Faeldon was also planning to run for governor in Mindoro.
Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr., meanwhile, is reported to be eyeing the gubernatorial post in Bohol. He is a former mayor of the town of Maribojoc in the said province.
If members of the Duterte administration decide to run, they will be deemed resigned from their respective posts when they file their certificates of candidacy (COC).
The filing of COCs will start on Thursday, October 11.
