Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Jose Mendoza is now a member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).

In a letter addressed to Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said Mendoza was picked by President Rodrigo Duterte to be part of the council, representing the retired justices of the Supreme Court.

Mendoza's term will expire on July 09, 2021. He retired from the high court last August.

Mendoza and Duterte are both graduates of San Beda College of Law.

Mendoza passed the Bar in 1971.

The JBC recommends appointees to the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, judges of the lower courts, Ombudsman, Ombudsman's deputies, among others.

The President chooses from a list of three nominees submitted by the JBC.
