MANILA - The number coding scheme for buses plying the Cainta-Quiapo route will be lifted starting Oct. 8 to assist commuters affected by the on-going repair of the Light Rail Transit Line-2 (LRT 2), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said Tuesday.

Lifting the unified vehicular volume reduction program (UVVRP) for public buses for the Cainta-Quiapo route will help serve the "transportation needs while the LRT-2 is undergoing repair," the MMDA said in a statement.

The order will take effect until the LRT-2 line resumes normal operations, the statement said.

Operations were suspended last Thursday after a power transformer between the Anonas and Katipunan stations caught fire. Partial operations started Tuesday, servicing passengers between the Recto and Cubao stations.

Restoring the train line to full operational capacity can take 9 months, LRT-2 spokesperson Hernando Cabrera earlier said.

LRT-2 serves some 200,000 passengers daily.
