The southwest monsoon or habagat season is coming to an end, signaling the start of cool weather brought by the northeast monsoon or amihan.

State weather bureau PAGASA on Monday said the transition period to the amihan season has already started.

"Nasa transition period na po tayo mula habagat season, papunta na po tayo sa amihan season," weather forecaster Ana Clauren told DZMM.

During the transition, the whole country may still experience localized thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

PAGASA is also monitoring Typhoon Hagibis, which is currently still outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

It may enter PAR by Friday should it continue to move in a west northwest direction at 25 kilometers per hour.

The country's potential 16th storm this year is unlikely to hit land, Clauren also said.
