MANILA -- The provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur said Sunday it is offering a P1-million reward for anyone who could provide leads for the arrest of the kidnappers of a British national and his Filipino wife.

British national Allan Hyrons and Filipino wife Wilma Hyrons were kidnapped by armed men shortly after arriving at their beach resort in Barangay Alindahaw in Tukuran on Friday night.

A witness said the couple was dragged by 4 armed men to pump boats which escaped in different directions.

"The provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur is exhausting all measures to rescue the lives of the Hyrons couple who were abducted by unidentified gunmen at their resort in Tukuran on Friday night," the province said in a statement.

Aside from owning a resort, the couple also owned a school in the town.

Tukuran Mayor Macario Tingson said he earlier warned the couple, who have been living in the town for 15 years already, to be more vigilant.

Authorities are investigating other possible motives for the attack aside from kidnap-for-ransom scheme.

The local government has already alerted the Coast Guard around the town and nearby areas to track the whereabouts of the couple.
