MANILA — Vice President Leni Robredo's office handed P2 million in aid to farmers in Magarao, Camarines Sur Saturday.

The funds will be used for a vegetable and flower-growing project in the landlocked town.

The initiative is part of the Office of the Vice President's "Angat Buhay" program that aims to support small farmers, Robredo said in a short speech before the farmers.

The project aims to help farmers in the neighboring towns of Pili and Libmanan next, she said.

Angat Buhay, which seeks to help "the farthest and poorest communities," has mobilized around P95 million worth of resources and projects for 149 areas, according to its website.

The Commission on Audit, in a 2018 report, told the OVP to improve its monitoring of government funds after 19 local government units that received a total of P28.189 million in anti-poverty funding failed to submit official receipts and liquidation reports.

Angat Buhay's latest beneficiary, Magarao, is home to nearly 25,000 people, according to a 2014 Philippine Statistics Authority report.
