MANILA - The "habagat" season or the southwest monsoon has officially ended and cool weather associated with the holidays is on its way, the state weather bureau said.
"Recent analyses showed a significant weakening of the southwest monsoon winds over the last few days," PAGASA Administrator Vicente Malano said in a statement Thursday.
"With this development, the southwest monsoon season or known locally as 'habagat' has ended," he added.
Malano added that the northeast monsoon or "amihan" season can be expected in the coming days.
The "amihan" season is usually associated with the cool weather during the holiday season.
