A transmission tower of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) in Carmen, North Cotabato was bombed late Tuesday night.

The explosion toppled tower no. 106 and threw several areas in Central Mindanao in darkness.

Authorities have yet to identify the perpetrators who reportedly used improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

A statement posted on NGCP's official Facebook account said the bombing of the 138 kilovolt steel tower in Barangay Manarapan took place past 11 p.m.

Mae Coreano, spokesperson of NGCP Cotabato district, told ABS-CBN News they are now setting up temporary towers which will take for at least two weeks.

"Nagsasagawa na tayo ngayon ng emergency restoration," she said.

Asked who is responsible for the blast, Coreano said they will let authorities investigate the incident.

The local police, on its part, are coordinating with community leaders to prevent another explosion from happening. - with report from Jasper Acosta, ABS-CBN News
