MANILA – WellMed Dialysis Center whistleblowers spent the night in jail after they were ordered arrested by a Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court, their lawyer Harry Roque confirmed on Friday.
Roque said his clients Leizel Aileen De Leon and Edwin Roberto, who exposed alleged PhilHealth ghost claims by the center, were arrested for same complex crime of estafa thru falsification of public document dismissed by QC RTC due to lack of jurisdiction but was refiled with QC MeTC.
Roque said they lost benefit of the Witness Protection Program when the case was refiled at MeTC.
Roque had earlier questioned Department of Justice prosecutors' decision to include his clients in indictment against WellMed owners and officers.
He said it is unfair that his clients are behind bars while WellMed owners are out on bail. He added they are trying to secure money for his clients' bail.
Roque said he will ask to defer arraignment of his clients.
